MGB employees working 20 or more hours a week are eligible for a public transportation subsidy, available through payroll deduction. Staff with monthly parking privileges are not eligible for this subsidy.
MBTA Passes
MGH offers subsidized MBTA Passes to eligible employees. As of December 31, 2024, the following changes will take effect:
Enrollment process moving to Ask My HR: With the retirement of PeopleSoft, the MBTA pass enrollment experience will now be found in Ask My HR. Go to Ask My HR, enter ‘MBTA’ into the search, and select the MBTA pass request form to submit your election.
Enrollment deadline moving to the 9th day of each month: To streamline the enrollment process across our system, the deadline to enroll or make changes to MBTA pass elections (adds/changes/cancellations) will be 11:59 p.m. ET on the 9th day of every month. Elections must be submitted by this day and time each month to take effect in the following month. Late submissions will be processed in the next period.
The Charlie Card
- The Charlie Card is a renewable card – don’t throw it away at the end of the month! It can be used for the Bus, Subway and Senior/ Transportation Access Program (SR/TAP). Express bus passes, both inner and outer, are also available.
- There is a replacement fee of $10.00 for lost MBTA Charlie Cards. This fee may be payroll deducted.
- There will be no replacement fee for broken or defective Charlie Cards (this fee is subject to change).
Important Notes regarding program:
- Deductions for your monthly T pass will occur in the third paycheck of every month.
- The deadline to change or initiate your purchase of a monthly pass through payroll deduction is the 9th day of the month.
- You only need to initiate the purchase of monthly passes one time.
- Charlie Cards will replenish each month and Commuter Rail passes will be issued monthly through your timekeeper until you change or cancel your enrollment through AskMyHR.

The Center for Genomic Medicine (CGM) comprises one of the largest and most vibrant hubs of genomic medicine research in the world. The CGM includes 46 faculty collaborating to define the ‘genomic medicine cycle’ – which envisages a genomics community seeking to advance research from basic genomics research to ultimately using genome information for diagnostics and targeted therapeutics. All of our investigators are faculty at Harvard Medical School, and many members of our community are also investigators at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT.
