The Talkowski Laboratory in Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and the Program in Medical and Population Genetics at the Broad Institute is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate to help lead our research programs in the genomics of human disease. Our research team integrates molecular and computational genomics approaches to dissect the genetic architectures of a spectrum of human diseases and traits, with a particular focus on the relationship between genome structure and function. The research program is a highly collaborative environment within the MGH and Broad Institute, as well as across several national and international genomics consortia. We are seeking an extremely collaborative, dynamic, and highly organized project manager to facilitate the progress and success of both new and existing projects.  The ideal candidate will drive scientific, operational, and administrative processes across institutions and engage with PI(s) and teams on consortium-based projects. The candidate will also be deeply engaged with the Broad Institute Genomics Platform and the Data Science Platform as new capabilities and innovations are developed, as well as the Stanley Center Project Management team. An ideal candidate will have outstanding writing and communication skills and be capable of participating in research proposal development and progress reports.

 

Key responsibilities and duties

  • Document and facilitate the creation of comprehensive project plans which define project scope, goals, resource requirements, risk analysis, implementation strategies, and communication plan
  • Clearly define project needs, timelines, and ensure these objectives align with the overall project goals
  • Work with scientific leads to complete objectives on time
  • Track progress of key milestones, ensuring execution of key deliverables
  • Manage changes in timelines, deliverables and budget and adjusts plans as needed
  • Proactively anticipate, identify, and mitigate potential issues before they arise
  • Ensure appropriate communication about all project status, deadlines, data requirements, logistics and all other project-related issues, including setting agendas, running meetings, taking meeting notes, and distributing action items
  • Initiate and facilitate project meetings to develop and continually align the team around goals
  • Develop and deploy new tools/methods to facilitate better project management Communication/Reporting
  • Serve as a centralized contact point for project leaders, stakeholders, contributors, and third-party contractors
  • Work with project lead and team members to ensure quality data generation and management to ensure that data is secure and accessible for decision-making
  • Assist with the submission of required documentation for projects including but not limited to IRB documentation, material transfer agreements and data use agreements

 

 

 Required Skills and Qualification

  • PhD is required. Individuals with an MS degree in a scientific field and exceptional experience in scientific project management and proposal development may be considered.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in goal-oriented project oversight
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to manage timelines and deliverables across multiple engagements
  • Ability to thrive in a team setting with an interdisciplinary group including biologists, data analysts, computer scientists and leadership is essential
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to shifting priorities

Preferred Skills and Qualification

  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Basic skills in computer science and/or bioinformatics
  • Experience with scientific writing, including grant, manuscript, and progress report development
  • Experience with project management techniques and tools
