The Sr. Research Scientist will work independently under the general direction of the PI and Laboratory Director, Dr. Stephen J. Haggarty.  This person is expected to manage and conduct cutting-edge research in the fields of neuroscience, in vivo pharmacology, human stem cell biology, and chemical biology, including engaging in highly collaborative projects both internally within MGH and externally, with an eye towards pre-clinical translation.



  • Develops and implement cutting-edge, pre-clinical, translational neuroscience studies in the fields of neuroscience, human stem cell biology, functional genomics and in vivo rodent pharmacology.
  • Independently designs, executes, documents, and interprets research experiments.
  • Performs and advises other investigators in techniques relating to molecular biology, neurobiology, chemical biology, and high-throughput screening.
  • Investigates, creates and develops new methods and technologies for efficiently addressing research goals.
  • Advises laboratory members in troubleshooting techniques.
  • Assists when needed in laboratory management.
  • Assists laboratory manager in maintenance of regulatory documents such as IACUC animal protocols and laboratory safety.
  • Contributes in a consistent manner to scientific literature and present research at scientific forums.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, fast paced, team-oriented environment is necessary.


  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and productively.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with deadlines is required
  • Strong research design and analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to problem solve.
  • Strong teaching skills and ability to supervise trainees and students.
  • In-depth knowledge in field and recent advances.
  • Extensive post-graduate experience with neurobiology, stem cell models of CNS disorders, and novel therapeutic discovery.
  • Extensive experience with rodent handling and husbandry.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience with in vivo drug delivery via multiple routes of administration in rodents.
  • Comprehensive understanding of rodent neuroanatomy.
  • Experience in quantitative imaging and biochemical methods preferred.
  • Expertise in high-throughput experimentation highly desired
  • Project management skills preferred



EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  Doctoral Degree or MD with 4+ years of post-doctoral experience in a research-related field

WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties will be performed in a basic and translational science research laboratory. Work will include animal handling. Work will predominantly be on-site
